What is a Trigger Point?
A trigger point is a band of shortened muscle microfilaments, within the muscle belly, that do not have the ability to relax. A trigger point can present as muscle tightness, spasm, contracture, nerve pain, numbness or as a deep constant ache.

Trigger points can be found in any muscle belly throughout the body. Trigger points have a central spot in the muscle belly which is sensitive to touch, but also have a referral area that can be further away from the origin. Trigger points can be misinterpreted as nerve irritation . If a nerve passes underneath or through a tight muscle belly and becomes compressed and oxygen deprived, lactic acid build up in the affected muscle tissue and further restricts the muscle's flexibility.
